BJP Faces Dip: Lok Poll Predicts 11-13 Seats in Karnataka

Date : 14-04-2024

Bengaluru: Many independent agencies and media houses are conducting pre-poll surveys ahead of the Lok Sabha election and most of them giving positive results for the ruling NDA coalition, but here is a surprise package for the BJP and its alliance. The Lok Poll survey has predicted that the BJP will not replicate its success from the last Lok Sabha election in Karnataka.

According to the survey agency, the BJP may win between 11 to 13 seats out of the total 25 Lok Sabha seats which the party is contesting, JDS it’s alliance is contesting on three seats, while the Congress party is predicted to win 15 to 17 seats.

The Lok Poll claimed that the sample size was 1,350 per parliamentary constituency and highlighted the accuracy of their previous Karnataka Assembly election survey.

The BJP, which is contesting the election in alliance with the regional party JD(S), claims that they will win all 28 seats this time. On the other hand, the Congress party, fighting alone this time, is relying heavily on the five guarantees they made during the Assembly election and subsequently implemented after forming the government, aiming to win at least 20 seats in the state.

The BJP is seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Modi and the development works of his government, while the Congress party is reminding voters of the promises they fulfilled in the state. The Lok Poll cited five points for voter consideration: unemployment, inflation, the prime ministerial candidate, welfare measures, and Kannada pride.

The survey agency mentioned a significant undercurrent within the state among beneficiaries of government guarantees. There is expected to be a significant shift in the Vokkaliga communities, as the community is unhappy with the BJP’s decision to deny tickets to former CM Sadanand Gowda and Prathap Simha.

Furthermore, the agency noted that JD(S) leaders are not actively supporting the BJP due to a lack of understanding between them. JD(S) leaders feel disrespected in Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Mysuru, Chitradurga, Chamarajnagar, and Raichur parliamentary constituencies where JD(S) has a strong cadre base and the BJP has fielded its candidates.

There is a noticeable consolidation of AHINDA (a coalition of minorities, backward classes, and Dalits) voters due to the welfare measures taken up. Additionally, infighting within the BJP might lead to vote splitting in constituencies where there is a close contest, Lok Poll stated in it’s social media post.
