Tumakuru: Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has stirred up controversy with his comments criticizing the state government’s five guarantees. Speaking in Turvekere while campaigning for alliance candidate V Somanna, Kumaraswamy expressed concern over the impact of the guarantee schemes, particularly on rural women.

Addressing the gathering, Kumaraswamy said, “Listen to a few words with a little attention. My village mothers have gone astray a bit because the present Congress government had announced five guarantees in the last election. What happens to the life of village mothers if such free schemes are given? Everyone has to think about this.”

He further raised objections to the extensive advertising of these guarantees, stating, “If you open any newspaper in the morning, all you see are advertisements about the guarantees. With the photos of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers, they have already spent Rs 300 crore on advertising. It’s all your money. This money is not from the Congress office or from their pockets. It’s public money.”

Kumaraswamy also attempted to deflect attention from the central government’s alleged failure to provide drought relief. “Farmers are complaining that the state government has not given money even though they have suffered crop losses due to drought and they are pointing towards Central government for this. There are certain rules laid down since Nehru’s time for the release of relief and they have to be followed when releasing money,” he stated.

The remarks of Kumaraswamy has sparked controversy and drawn criticism from various quarters, with many questioning the appropriateness of Kumaraswamy’s statements.
