Google Doodle Celebrates Start of Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Date : 19-04-2024

Marking the start of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, Google published a Doodle on Friday. At 1.87 lakh polling places today, more than 16.63 crore voters—including 8.4 crore men and 8.23 crore women—will cast ballots. Voting will occur in 21 states and Union Territories during the first phase, making it the largest of all. Consequently, Google changed the “Google” logo on its homepage to a picture of an inked, raised index finger to commemorate the start of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections. This symbol stands for the democratic process of Indian elections.

When users click on the doodle, they are taken to search results about the most recent information about the Indian elections, but Google did not disclose the identity of the doodle designer.

From April 19 to June 1, there will be seven stages to the general elections that will select the 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha. Voting for Phase 2 is set for April 26; Phase 3 is set for May 7; Phase 4 is set for May 13; Phase 5 is set for May 20; Phase 6 is set for May 25; and Phase 7 is set for June 1. On June 4, the results will be made public.

The elections to the five seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be held across five phases almost five years to the abrogation of Article 370. Among the prominent candidates in the first phase are Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Bhupendra Yadav, Kiren Rijiju, Sanjeev Baliyan, Jitendra Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal and Sarbananda Sonowal. Also in the fray are Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi, DMK’s Kanimozhi as well as BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai.

The opposition INDIA bloc is looking for a resurgence, while the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is aiming for a larger majority. Of the 102 seats up for grabs on Friday, the UPA had won 45 and the NDA 41 in 2019. As part of the delimitation process, six of these seats have been redrew.
