In Red Hot Form: Dinesh Karthik Eyes World Cup Spot

Date : 21-04-2024

Kolkata: Dinesh Karthik, a ray of hope for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) dismal season, expressed his desire to represent India in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Despite RCB languishing at the bottom of the table with just one win, Karthik’s stellar batting has been a saving grace. His consistent performances have even sparked rumors of a national call-up.

“At this point in my career, playing for India in the T20 World Cup would be an absolute dream,” Karthik said at a pre-match press conference. “It’s my biggest cricketing ambition right now.”

While acknowledging the ultimate decision lies with the coach, captain, and selector, Karthik expressed his complete faith in their judgment. “Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Ajit Agarkar are highly respected figures, and I completely trust their decision-making regarding the World Cup squad,” he said.

Vowing to give his all for a World Cup berth, Karthik highlighted his effectiveness as a finisher, amassing 226 runs despite batting lower down the order.

“I’m thoroughly enjoying this finisher role for RCB,” he said. “At this stage, I understand my strengths and limitations. I’m not a power hitter like Andre Russell or Kieron Pollard.”

Karthik elaborated on his batting approach, emphasizing the importance of recognizing bowling patterns and adapting his game accordingly.

“I practice by visualizing the field placements and the types of deliveries I’m likely to face,” he explained. “This approach has helped me refine my shot selection and become more effective in the death overs.”

Karthik concluded by expressing his delight at being able to contribute meaningfully for RCB. “It’s been fantastic to express myself at the crease, and I’m relishing this finisher’s role,” he signed off.
