Six Members of a Family Drown in Kali River in Uttara Kannada District

Dandeli: A family outing to Dandeli turned tragic to a family on Sunday. As six members of family drowned in the Kali River while rescuing a toddler.

The incident happened near Akwada village in Dandeli taluk, Uttara Kannada district, where the family, hailing from Hubballi’s Ishwar Nagar, had arrived for a picnic. As per reports, eight members of the family were enjoying a lunch by the river when a young child accidentally slipped into the water. In a heart-wrenching attempt to rescue the child, one by one, six family members entered the river in a desperate effort to save the child, but were unfortunately overpowered by the strong currents.

The deceased have been identified as Nazir Ahmed (40), Alfiya Ahmed (10), Mohin (6), Reshma Unnisa (38), Ifra Ahmed (15), and Abid Ahmed (12). Thankfully, two women from the family who did not enter the water are reported to be safe.

Following the incident, the Dandeli Rural Police reached the spot and retrieved all six bodies from the river. The bodies have been sent to Dandeli Hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered at the Dandeli Rural Police Station.
