Date : 23-04-2024

Hubballi/ Shivamogga: Criminal Investigation Department will probe Neha Hiremath’s murder case. The official handover of the case is likely to happen today or tomorrow, said police sources.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar stated that the official handover of the case to CID will happen at the earliest.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Monday, informed reporters in Shivamogga that the case would be transferred to CID, and a special court would be established for its speedy trial.

To a question, why he hasn’t visited Neha’s parents yet, the CM said  “Our party workers, including Minister Santosh Lad have also visited them. Minister HK Patil will also visit them. I will meet Neha’s family members during my next visit to Hubballi,” the CM said.

Niranjan Hiremath, father of Neha, has alleged that the twin cities police are not efficiently probing the murder case, citing that no action was taken even when he gave names of eight people who might be involved in the gruesome murder.

He also demanded on Monday that the case should be handed over to CBI. When asked about the case being handed over to CID, he said they should work impartially, and the investigation should be comprehensive and efficient.

Neha, 23, a first-year MCA student, was brutally murdered by her former classmate Fayaz Khondunaik. Her murder has caused widespread anger across Karnataka. The opposition has been leveling allegations that law and order in the state has completely collapsed. State BJP president BY Vijayendra will meet Neha’s parents in Hubballi today. Just a day ago, BJP National President JP Nadda visited Neha’s family and demanded that this case should be handed over to CBI.
