Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress party’s decision to include Muslims in the backward caste category for reservation in Karnataka, labeling it as a move towards religion-based quota.
Speaking at a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul, PM Modi condemned the Congress’s actions, accusing them of risking the interests of the OBC (Other Backward Classes) community. He stated that such a step undermines the principles of the Constitution, which prohibits reservation based on religion.
Modi informed the voters about the stance of Babasaheb Ambedkar against such measures and criticized Congress for pursuing their own agenda at the expense of social justice.
Earlier, the National Commission for Backward Classes raised concerns over Karnataka’s decision, stating that blanket categorization of Muslims dilutes the essence of social justice. The commission pointed out that including all Muslim castes under the OBC list contradicts the principles of fairness.
According to data provided by the Karnataka Backward Classes Welfare Department, Muslims from all castes and communities have been categorized as socially and educationally backward, further sparking controversy over the reservation issue.
