An official said on Thursday that two children who had been missing for several hours had been discovered dead inside a parked car at Anotp Hill in central Mumbai. The police believe the children may have choked to death.

According to the official, the children did not seem to be able to unlock the car because it was locked from the inside.

Muskan Mohabbat Shaikh (5) and Sajid Mohammed Shaikh (7) were playing outside their homes, where the car was parked, on Wednesday afternoon.

The kids’ parents began looking for them when they didn’t get home until the evening. The official added that they later filed a missing person’s report at the Antop Hill police station.

A few hours later, the kids were discovered inside the car, unconscious. The official stated that after the car doors were opened and the children were taken to the hospital, physicians pronounced them dead.

According to the official, it appears that the children were locked inside the car and suffocated to death.

He added that an accidental death case has been filed for the time being and that police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area’s installed cameras and looking into all potential angles.
