Bengaluru: IT industry veteran N R Narayana Murthy, along with his wife Sudha Murty, a member of Rajya Sabha, and cricketing legend Rahul Dravid, were among the early participants in Friday’s voting, urging citizens, particularly the youth, to actively participate in the democratic process.
The voting process commenced on Friday for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls.
Expressing the significance of the voting right, Narayana Murthy emphasized responsible participation, stating, “We are granted the privilege to vote once every five years. It’s imperative to exercise this right with due consideration and responsibility.”
Sudha Murty mentioned Narayana Murthy’s commitment to voting despite his health challenges. “Despite being unwell and hospitalized, Narayana Murthy insisted on casting his vote. After voting, we are taking him home,” she explained.
Highlighting the importance of voting before her scheduled travel, Sudha Murty stressed, “Voting is a noble act. Instead of mere discussions, it’s crucial to step out, vote, and express your views. We need more people to participate in the process.”
Addressing the media post-voting in Jayanagar, Sudha Murty appealed to the youth to actively engage in voting. “While senior citizens like me stand in queues, it’s crucial for the youth to join in. I urge the citizens of Bengaluru, known for low turnout, to increase their participation.”
She further urged educated individuals, often hesitant to vote, to exercise their right as informed voters.
Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, emphasized the importance of participation in democracy. “The election arrangements are well in place for smooth conduct. Let’s ensure a record turnout in Bengaluru this time. I urge the youth, especially first-time voters, to come forward and cast their votes,” he asserted.
