Guwahati: AICC president, Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of failing to fulfill any of his electoral promises and instead boasting about his accomplishments without tangible results.
Speaking reporters in Guwahati, Kharge said that not a single promise made by PM Modi has been fulfilled, yet he continues to claim significant achievements for the country. Kharge refrained from elaborating further, asserting the Congress’s legacy as the party that fought for India’s independence.
Kharge said that the BJP never played a role in India’s independence struggle and has made minimal contributions to the nation’s development. He highlighted the foundational role of the Congress in nation-building, contrasting it with the BJP’s rhetoric of patriotism which, according to Kharge, elevates Modi above historical figures like Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Kharge lamented the distortion of historical facts by the BJP, alleging that they propagate the notion that India only achieved independence after 2014, dismissing the contributions of pre-Modi leaders. He expressed dismay at former Congress members who now echo BJP’s criticisms of Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi, questioning their decades-long association with the Congress if it was truly as detrimental as they claim.
