
Modi Launches 103 Upgraded Railway Hubs; Karnataka Sees Major Boost
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through a virtual event, officially launched 103 refurbished railway terminals across India as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, aiming to modernize travel infrastructure nationwide. Among these, five stations located in Karnataka received notable upgrades.
A highlight of this effort is the revamped Dharwad railway junction, rebuilt at an estimated expense of ₹17 crore. The unveiling event in Dharwad was ceremoniously overseen by Karnataka’s Governor, Thaawarchand Gehlot, who commended the initiative for promoting regional development and enhancing passenger amenities.
The inauguration in Dharwad witnessed the presence of several key dignitaries and local leaders. Among them were the Legislative Council President Basavaraj Horatti, former legislative member Amrut Desai, Shakeer Sanadi, the current head of the Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HUDA), and the South Western Railway’s Divisional Railway Manager. Each expressed optimism about the project’s role in boosting connectivity and economic activity in the region.
The Amrit Bharat Station Yojana is envisioned as a transformative blueprint to upgrade railway stations with modern amenities, sustainable architecture, and seamless multimodal integration. It seeks to elevate commuter experiences and facilitate smoother travel for millions of passengers.
These developments reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing national infrastructure and supporting local growth. The upgraded stations are expected to foster tourism, support trade, and create job opportunities in their respective regions.
