Ramayana is hailed as a great epic of the country, and every character of the epic weilds a great influence on us citizens. We come across legends that link many places across the nation that are connected with this great epic. Anjanadri hill in Koppal District of Karnataka is one such place. Many researches claim that Hanuman/Hanumantha from epic Ramayana was born in Anjanadri hill/betta on the bank of river Tungabhadra.

Today the hill houses a Hanuman temple on top of it, and it takes as may as 575 steps to reach the shrine. This temple has stone-carved idol of Hanuman and along with this we also find shrines built for Lord Rama, Devi, Sita and Anjana Devi, Lord Hanuman’s mother. Well-known as a piligrimage centre, the hill sees regular stream of devotees. As the shrine is associated with Lord Hanuman it is a common scene to see the place inhabitated by scores of monkeys.

The hill and its vicinity is surrounded by lush-green paddy fields. This provides a serene green view from atop the hill. The place fills visitors with calm with river Tungabhadra flowing nearby. Many resorts, which are beautifully constructed too have come up near the hill which makes for a peaceful stay for few days for visitors. Many who have plans to visit near by places such as Hampi, Hosapete and Tungabhadra dam can be seen camping here.

Anjanadri Hill is about 5 kms away from Hampi, the Capital City of Vijayanagara Empire, and around 3 kms away from Anegundi, a famous historical centre since the time of Vijayanagara Empire.

Visit to Hampi is incomplete without visit to Anjanadri Hills, and the best time to visit the Anjanadri hill is between September and February.
