Summer has already set in and people are paying more attention to their body and health. During this time, it is very important to know what kind of food is best for our body and what quantity we need to consume.

During the summer season, our body puts out a considerable amount of water in the form of sweat. There are certain types of food that we need to include in our diet that helps us get back that much amount of water into our body.

Our body’s digestive system is very weak during this time. This interferes with the proper digestion of food. Thus, we should limit the food we eat and include more and more food which is rich in water.

Instead of drinking just water in summers, add lavancha roots, cumin seeds or coriander seeds to the water. Drink boiled water to prevent the body from getting cold and quench the thirst to a great extent. However, this is not suitable for everyone. It is advisable to check one’s body type and then provide the body with the required amount of water and food,” said Dr. Anuradha from Kakunje Ayurvedic Wellness Clinic.

Food items rich in salt, sour and fried foods should be greatly reduced. One can use some sweet buttermilk instead of adding ginger and pepper to the sour buttermilk and drinking it.

Sweet food, fruit juices, and eating foods that are too watery and slightly sweet are very good for the health of the body during the summer. As man is also a part of nature, the kind of changes that take place in nature, human beings too experience the same. Just as nature is watered in summer, the human body should also use food with more and more water content.

Exercise is as important as food for the health of the body. It is advisable to punish the body as little as possible during summer, otherwise, the body becomes more tired. Walking for 5 to 10 minutes a day is better as heavy exercise reduces the energy in the body as a lot of water is drained out of the body due to the heat.

Fruit juices provide good water content to the body during the summer season. Soaking pomegranate juice, or raisins and dates in water, squeezing it in hand and adding jaggery and some sugar to it can prevent fatigue and excessive thirst. Dry fruits like grapes, dates and almonds can be used according to the body type.

It is best to use sunscreen or cover our body with an umbrella or cloth so that our body is not exposed to the sun as much while stepping out of the house.

In summer, our body is slightly weaker than normal. Thus consuming more watery food is very beneficial from a health point of view.
