Moodabidri: Tourists from Italy and Korea took back the fragrance of glorious Coastal history by visiting the historically significant Thousand Pillar Basadi, here at Jain Kashi-Moodabidri on Tuesday, December 12.

Over 150 tourists were told about the importance of the Basadi, its history and the sculptures by Jain Math Sri Charukeerthi Panditacharya. There are 18 other Basadis here which too have been attracting tourists.

About the temple:

The temple, also known as the Tribhuvana Tilaka Chudamani Basadi is well known across the world not only because it was built in 1430 AD, but because of the remarkable pillars that form an integral part of the temple.

Devaraya Wodeyar, the ruler of Vijayanagar had initiated the construction of the temple in 1430 AD , but the temple as it stands today includes additions made in 1962. At the entrance is a huge monolithic pillar called Maanasthamba.
