Mundagoda Struggles with Malfunctioning Streetlights
The town of Mundagoda is currently grappling with a significant issue regarding its street lighting. The streetlights installed along major roads are malfunctioning, resulting in areas of darkness and raising safety concerns for residents.
The Planning and Roads Asset Management Center (PROMC) of the Public Works Department has installed decorative electric lights on these major roads. However, these lights are reportedly deteriorating over time. Additionally, there are complaints regarding the inconsistency and inadequacy of lighting along Bankapur-Yallapur Road and Hubli-Shirasi Highway. This situation has contributed to a feeling of abandonment in the town after nightfall.
There appears to be confusion surrounding the status of the project’s completion. The installation of decorative electric lights has not yet been handed over to the town panchayat, complicating efforts to address maintenance issues as they arise.
Moreover, there have been reports of electrical heat emanating from underground passages in certain areas, along with instances where bulbs fail to illuminate. Despite efforts by the town panchayat’s electricity maintenance staff and communication with officials from the Public Works Department, these issues persist.
It is evident that there is an urgent need for effective maintenance and oversight of Mundagoda’s street lighting infrastructure to ensure public safety during nighttime hours. Addressing these concerns will necessitate coordinated efforts among relevant departments and prompt action to rectify existing problems, while establishing proper handover procedures for future installations.
