Mysuru: When Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda called out to those Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) who don’t take bribes to stand up at an open meeting, among the more than 20 of them who were present on the occasion, just two stood up. Meanwhile, Devegowda, who was upset with the performance of most of the officers, especially the surveyors and PDOs, asked Deputy Commissioner Abhiram Sankar to ensure that these officers worked efficiently.

Devegowda, also the district minister, reviewed various development projects especially related to his Chamundeshwari constituency. During this meeting with the officials, Devegowda took to task most of the officers especially PDOs and surveyors. Though he had a soft corner for female officers, he was merciless with most of the male officers. While speaking to Mysuru Taluk Tahsildar Ramesh he said, “I know you are a good worker but if you fail to keep up to our expectation, it will not take me more than a day to transfer you. Hence keeping this in mind, perform well and do justice to the people”.

“The days of leniency given by the previous government are gone. If you are not able to work you can go home. For me, no work should be pending and none especially the poor people should suffer. If anybody approaches you, especially the PDOs, it is your responsibility to see that the works get completed at the earliest. But here, most of the PDOs are posing a lot of inconvenience to the people who visit them. If things continue like this, I am not going to spare any officers. For minor works too, don’t keep dragging the people from pillar to post. By the next meeting, if all the problems and works which I have instructed are not completed, stringent action will be initiated against the officers concerned”, added GTD.

At the same time, Devegowda also called upon the PDOs to complete the ongoing survey on those who are not having sites and houses, at the earliest. He also called upon all the surveyors to take up the surveys of the hospitals, lake, burial ground in their respective jurisdictions. He also called upon the Zilla Panchayat EO Lingaraju to take stringent action against the PDOs who are not functioning properly or posing problems to the public.

Streamline queue system at Chamundi Hill temple

Keeping the Ashada Shukravara in mind, G T Devegowda called upon the district authorities to streamline the queue system at the Chamundi Hill temple. “There should be one entry point and one exit point. If you create more entry points, the public will be put to a lot of hardship. Hence the authorities should take steps to streamline the queue system at Chamundi Hill and not allow any vehicle atop during Ashada Shukravara. He also called upon the police officers to remove barricades on Sayyaji Rao Road and replace them with cement blocks.

Don’t harass women

During the meeting, he also called upon the police personnel to not harass women even if they were found not wearing helmets.
