Naxal Ravindra Set to Surrender, Marks Shift in Karnataka Insurgency
Chikkamagaluru: Ravindra, a Naxalite operating near Kigga in Sringeri taluk, is reportedly preparing to turn himself in to authorities. After remaining underground for an extended period, he recently reconnected with members of the Citizens for Peace Forum, signaling his intent to formally surrender within the coming week.
His decision follows a growing trend of Naxal surrenders in Karnataka. On January 8, six Naxals laid down their arms in Bengaluru in the presence of the Chief Minister. Earlier, speculation suggested that Ravindra had escaped to Kerala or Tamil Nadu, adding uncertainty to his whereabouts and plans.
For a while, Ravindra had severed communication with the Citizens for Peace Forum and the Naxal Rehabilitation Committee, delaying negotiations for his surrender. However, with contact now reestablished, the process is moving forward.
If he follows through, Ravindra’s surrender could mark a crucial milestone in dismantling the two-decade-long Naxal insurgency in Karnataka, further weakening the movement in the region.
