NHAI’s bold move to connect Bengaluru and Kolar with a new 18 km road link
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to build an 18-kilometre road connecting the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway to the Bengaluru–Kolar Highway (NH 75). This vital link is designed to enhance regional travel, providing smoother access, particularly for those traveling to the Andhra Pradesh border.
Currently, drivers use a newly opened 68-kilometre section of the expressway, running from Hoskote to Bethamangala (KGF). However, the remaining parts of the expressway in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are still under construction, limiting uninterrupted access across states. NHAI officials state that the proposed link will optimize traffic flow, introduce toll collection systems, and promote local economic growth and job creation.
As of now, travelers are forced to use village and district roads after exiting at Bethamangala, which are often less convenient. The planned road link will upgrade local routes, particularly connecting Sundarapalya to Mulbagal, and integrate them into NH 75, greatly improving accessibility. This new link will ease congestion and ensure a more direct connection between key locations.
With daily traffic on the completed section already reaching 1,800 to 2,000 vehicles, officials expect the number to rise significantly once the link is functional. The improved connectivity will offer substantial benefits to regional transport and economic development.
