Nigerian National Arrested in Major MDMA Bust in Mangaluru
In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Mangaluru CCB apprehended Nigerian national Peter Ikedi Belonwu (38) and seized 6.310 kg of MDMA, valued at Rs 6 crore. Belonwu, residing in Govinda Reddy Layout, Bengaluru, was caught with additional items including three mobile phones, a digital scale, 35 ATM cards, 17 inactive SIM cards, and 10 bank passbooks. The total value of the confiscated goods is Rs 6,00,63,500, according to Commissioner Anupam Agrawal.
This operation followed the arrest of Hyder Ali (51) at a Pumpwell lodge, where 15 grams of MDMA were discovered. Information provided by Ali, combined with technical surveillance, led police to Belonwu. He had a prior case in Vidyaranyapura, Bengaluru, for drug trafficking and was found distributing narcotics across Karnataka and Kerala.
Investigations revealed a sophisticated distribution method: MDMA crystals were packed into small sachets and placed near bins in common packaging like chips or biscuit packets. The recipients were then given a Google location to collect the drugs.
Belonwu’s visa had expired in 2019, and police are now verifying whether his overstay was noted in his Bengaluru case. Commending the team, Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan and Commissioner Agrawal announced cash rewards of Rs 1 lakh each for the CCB unit led by ACP Manoj Kumar Naik.
