Nitin Gadkari orders inspection of NH-66 accident-prone spots
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has called for an urgent inspection of accident-prone zones along National Highway 66 (NH-66). The decision follows concerns raised by Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojari regarding poor infrastructure design affecting key areas.
Poojari highlighted several problematic spots during a meeting with the minister, including Nanthoor Junction in Mangaluru, the Ambalpady flyover in Udupi, and the underpass near Brahmavar Akashvani junction. These locations have become notorious for frequent accidents and severe traffic congestion, posing risks to commuters.
In response, Gadkari directed officials to conduct detailed inspections, compile video evidence, and present a comprehensive analysis of these “black spots.” He also emphasized the need for immediate corrective measures, including the potential reconstruction of faulty infrastructure. Funds from the Central Road Fund (CRF) will be allocated for essential road repairs in Brahmavar, Kota, and Kundapura.
Poojari proposed forming a high-level engineering committee to address the issues effectively and suggested accelerated efforts to complete vital projects, such as the Kalyanpura-Santhekatte stretch and Indrali Bridge, to improve traffic flow.
The meeting saw participation from prominent figures, including Lok Sabha members Brijesh Chowta and Manjunath, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, businessman G Shankar, and BJP leader Suresh Nayak. Gadkari assured attendees of a swift and comprehensive resolution to enhance safety and reduce inconvenience for highway users.
