Mangaluru: Thank You Karnataka is a series of programmes organised to celebrate decennial year of News Karnataka and thus thank Kannadigas all over the globe for supporting the Spearhead Media Group to achieve this milestone.
One of the programme under Thank You Karnataka series is Walk the Special Path, a show promoting sensitivity, awareness and most importantly, social inclusion of disabled children, which is aired on Monday.
The guest of the sixth episode held on Monday November 14 is Dr. Jestalaxmi B., Counselling Psychologist. The anchor person for the programme is Meena Noronha.
The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s YouTube Channel.
Speaking about the ‘importance of acceptance’ in the parents of special child, Dr. Jestalaxmi B. opined, without acceptance taking the second step towards diagnosis is difficult. It is the journey for parents, in which they both are together and so each one should be supportive enough.
“Life skill training for special children is more important compared to a normal children. Along with sending kids to special schools parents should also be trained in imparting life skills among the special kids”, she emphasised.
Opinions like “having a class rooms for special children in a regular school, bringing them outside the four walls and inculcating the inclusiveness through making the city disable friendly” were expressed by Dr. Jestalaxmi B. and anchor Meena Noronha.
