Mangaluru: Thank You Karnataka is a series of programmes organised to celebrate decennial year of News Karnataka and thus thank Kannadigas all over the globe for supporting the Spearhead Media Group to achieve this milestone.
One of the programme under Thank You Karnataka series is Walk the Special Path, a show promoting sensitivity, awareness and most importantly, social inclusion of disabled children, which is aired on Monday.
The guest of the second episode that aired on Monday September 5 was Dr. Kusum Tantry D’Sa, Counsellor, Translator, Teacher Trainer and Research Guide. The anchor person for the programme was Meena Noronha.
The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
Dr. Kusum Tantry D’Sa speaking in the inclusiveness of Education system today shared, “The syllabus that is given to teachers to executive doesn’t cater to the need of healthy students. In case of specially-abled, they are sidelined in the system,” she worried.
“The more delay in acceptance, the more delay in child’s opportunity to learn. The more educated parents are more difficult to convince about any spectrum of special challenges within the kids,” expressed Dr. Kusum Tantry D’Sa on her personal experience.
She also discussed on the early signs of diagnosing the challenges within the child. She pointed, ‘Attitude of people, delay in policy for disabled due to it’s presence in concurrent list, disability being the ignored field of health by District Administrations and Judiciary, acts as a loophole in bringing the inclusiveness.
Dr. Kusum Tantry D’Sa expressed concern on the lack of special education trained and certified teachers and appreciated the initiative of NewsKarnataka for being inclusive and initiating unique programmes.
