Dubai: Municipality teams conducted thorough safety inspections and visited 10,141 food establishments during September until the mid of October to ensure Covid-19 guidelines were followed.

Within the span of 45 days, inspection teams penalized and shut down 25 food establishments for non-compliance of precautionary measures, and issued warnings to 1,579 others. While 8,404 were found complying to the procedures set by the health authorities.

“The food establishments in the emirate have been showing a great level of commitment to the procedures and requirements set by the municipality to confront Covid-19 during the recent period, compared to last month,” said Sultan Al Tahir, director at the municipality’s food inspection section.

He added that most violators did not adhere to social distancing, did not enforce wearing face masks and gloves while preparing food, as well as did not use approved sterilization and disinfection materials.

The municipality inspection teams also check the daily follow-up records of health of workers, sterilization and disinfection operations record, ensuring other food safety measures are in place, Al Tahir said.
