Dubai: The Dubai Police have confirmed that the death of the industrialist from Kerala, Joy Arakkal, was a suicide.
According to a report by the Gulf News, the Dubai Police said that Arakkal committed suicide by jumping from a building in the Business Bay on April 23.
He is survived by his wife Celine and children - Arun and Ashly - who live in Jumeirah.
Brigadier Abdullah Khadim Bin Sorour, director of Bur Dubai Police Station, told the Gulf News that Arakkal jumped from the 14th floor of his friend's building over financial problems.
The report added that the police have ruled out the involvement of foul play in the suicide and are presently coordinating with Arakkal's family for the repatriation of his body.
Arakkal, according to the report, was the managing director of Dubai-headquartered Innova Group of Companies which had diverse businesses. The main focus of the Group was the oil sector. He was also a UAE Gold Card visa recipient.
Speaking to the Gulf News, Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul confirmed that Arakkal's family will be flying to their home along with the body, after receiving special permission from the Indian authorities to travel in a chartered air ambulance.
He added that the family has received No Objection Certificates from India in this regard and the matter has been taken up with the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the necessary permits.
Once all procedures are completed, a chartered air ambulance will fly in from Bangaluru to carry the family and the body back to Kerala.
Arakkal's funeral will be held in Wayanad's Mananthavady, his hometown.
During his career, Arakkal had received many awards, including a lifetime achievement award from the Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan during his visit to Dubai.
