‘Free Oxygen on Wheels,’ an initiative led by MLA Priya Krishna of the Govindaraj Nagar Constituency with the help of former minister M Krishnappa has gathered a lot of attention because of its life-saving Covid relief services for its people.

Under the initiative, six private sleeper coach buses were transformed into thirty-bed oxygen buses. In each bus, eight oxygen cylinders are made available for Covid patients who need medical assistance. It has helped critically ill patients with an SPO2 level of 80 to 90 since May. It is also worth noting that all the medical service is provided free of charge to those who have been struck the hardest by the virus and the lockdown.

Speaking to News Karnataka Prashant Narasimha, Youth Congress President of Govindarajnagar said that, “Our Covid relief activities primarily focus on people in the Vijayanagar and Govindarajnagar constituencies and they can avail ‘Free Oxygen on Wheels’ service if they do not find any hospital bed. In addition, three ambulances were provided solely to help the patients. So far we were able to help around 500 people.”

In addition, the Priya Krishna Team, members of Congress, and members of the Congress Youth are actively working for the people by delivering dry ration and essential item kits to the marginalised, destitute, labourers, and women.

“The positive feedback we’ve received has encouraged us because it has become apparent that the service has been extremely beneficial to all the Covid patients. We were first concerned about how to carry out these initiatives as well as how to reach out to individuals, given the high death rates in mid-April. But, thanks to the team effort, everything went well and according to plan,” added Prashant.

Daily hundreds of people who are unable to afford medical and other vital expenses during the pandemic have benefited from initiatives like these. This encourages the team to help more individuals experiencing problems during these difficult times.
