English Home, an English Teachers’ Forum based in Udupi, in association with Swastika National School organised the 31st session of its web series ‘Happy English’. The session focused on the topic ‘Exceptional Impressions’.

The 31st edition of this web series on English language empowerment and soft skills will equip teachers to create a good impression. The series began 30 weeks ago during the lockdown period. It is aimed at improving the English language proficiency, soft skills, and personality development of teachers. Teachers from all over Karnataka participate in this web series. Most of them are primary school teachers and some are high school teachers. Every week, the poster on the upcoming session is shared with 1000s of teachers online. Around 150 participants attend every programme and those who do not have a good network or are busy, view it on YouTube.

“Although our target group is teachers, the session on impressions was for all. It is useful for the general public, also,” said Ashok Thekkate, convenor at English Home.

“The main objective of this program is to increase the English language proficiency of government school teachers and thereby enable them to provide quality English education to children in Government Kannada medium schools,” he informed.

He added that the session covered how to create a good impression on others. The attendees were briefed about what tools are required for this accomplishment. He said that focus on how one can rise ahead of the crowd and be unique. He emphasised that there is a need for teachers to create an impression as great teachers on their students. There are many teachers who are great at creating an exceptional impression on students, parents, and the Department, but some may not be, for many reasons.

This session aimed to develop overall performance by providing teachers with tools for personality development through creating good impressions on others. The technical host of the session guided the attendees to achieve the same. Thekkate added that this initiative which empowers teachers through language and skill development fills up the academic vacuum created by the pandemic.

The 31st  session was held at 5.45 p.m. on May 22, led by the resource person T. V. N. Murthy, National President 2005, JCI, and the chief guest Chandrahas Rai B, Former Registrar, Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy. The session was held on Zoom and Youtube Live.
