Amid the Covid Pandemic, a woman is setting an example for society by keeping humanity first. Bejai Nandini Raghuchandra has started a noble initiative by providing meals every day to the destitute and migrant labourers in Mangaluru city.
Speaking to News Karnataka she said, “People are again confined to their homes as the country faces a rapid surge in Covid-19 cases. In light of this, Karnataka has imposed strict lockdown in various places to bring down the spread of the virus. This has impacted the livelihood of poor people and migrant labourers. Families are struggling to make the ends meet as they can’t afford to pay for basic necessities during this lockdown.”
“Even last year when the lockdown was announced I had provided breakfast and meals for 55 days. But unlike the first wave of covid, the second wave has left the migrants and daily wages completely helpless. This year the crisis has largely affected the underprivileged who had only started to recover from the initial troubles caused last year. So it made me restart the food distribution again,” she expressed.
“Realising the plight of poor and destitute I have decided to help the people in need. We provide 250 meals a day. The food is prepared in our home. My chef Lakshmi and daughter Savitri are helping me in the preparation and distribution of food. We distribute the food to the needy across Mangaluru city everyday. We will continue this service till the end of the lockdown,” she added.
