With the Covid second wave hitting the country at a faster phase than expected, our country is under tremendous pressure. With the number of cases increasing, many state governments have placed the state under lockdown including Karnataka.
Although this step has proven to help with the situation, for many of those who earn daily wages, times have been very difficult. To come to the aid of people like these in Mangaluru, two head constables Shivakumar Rao, Head Constable of Economic and Narcotic Police station Pandeshwar and Sunil Kumar of Surathkal Police Station have started an initiative to distribute meals, and masks.
Speaking to News Karnataka Shivakumar Rao said, “Amid this situation, we decided to give meals, drinking water bottle, and masks because we saw people were finding it difficult to get these essentials. We distribute about 150 meals everyday at the old service bus stand area, Hampankatta and Bunts’ Hostel,” he added.
Volunteers and contributors help with the cause to ensure that the underprivileged are provided with the food during this period of the drive. “People are realising it is the need of the hour and helping us with the initiative,” said Shivakumar.
He said that many people have come forward to sponsor meals for these people. Rambhavan hotel, Mangaluru has been helping us byy preparing the meals everyday free of cost. And team Adi Maheshwari friends help us in distributing the meals.
“We were motivated to help the people around and reach as many as we can in a way that was possible for us. We will provide the food continuously till the lockdown ends,” he added.
