B.K. Ganesh Rai to be conferred with ‘Global Man Award 2015’

Sharjah: B.K. Ganesh Rai, former president of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha will be conferred with the prestigious ‘Global Man Award 2015’ during the 12th Vishwa Kannada Samskruthi Sammelana and 13th anniversary of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha Celebrations to be held on November 19 and 20, 2015 at Al Boom Tourist Village, Sharjah, UAE.
He will be honoured with this award for his contribution to Kannada language, Literature, Art, Folk and Social Service both globally and in India

Ganesh Rai, son of Thulasiamma and Krishnappa Rai, is a B.Com. Graduate from Government College, Madikeri, a Fine Art Diploma holder from Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts and also an Art Master Certificate holder from Kalanikethan School of Arts, Mysore and Mahalasa School of Arts. He has won the Karnataka state ‘Best teacher award’ in 1993, Karnataka Rajyotsava district award, a gold medal from Dr. Veerendra Heggade, the Shilpa Kala Ratna award, Kala Praveen award, Kala Kirana award, an honour from Karnataka Police dept, Lalith Kala Akademi, Bengaluru and many other awards.

Rai has rendered his valuable service to the Sharjah Karnataka Sangha from 2004-06 as the president. He has to his credit organizing the first blood donation camp of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha in association with Gulf Medical college hospital and Sharjah Ministry of Health. Following Sharjah Karnataka Sangha, many other pro-Kannada forums began organising blood donation camps every year.

He is well renowned for his unique style of painting, be it on miniatures to walls, various forms of sculptures from paper pulp to plaster of paris, large stage settings, tableaux, palatial sets, photography, videography, brochures, digital banners, souvenirs, models, etc.

His artwork includes designing the entrance gate of Madikeri Junior College, Ganesha statues, customized statues for the Karnataka Electricity board, Madikeri and the Archana Ganapathi Seva Samithi Virajapete, paper pulp statues of God and Goddesses like Subramanya, Ganapathi, Mahakali, Kollur Mookambika, Maha Vishnu and many others.

Ganesh also made his name in cement crafted statues, and honey wax statues all over Madikeri. The Kaveri statue at Palibetta, Mother Marys and St. Michael’s  statue at Kedamalloor church, Madikeri, Raghavendra Swami statue for Mantralaya, Karumariyamma, Shivalinga and Nandi statue for Madikeri temple, Swami Vivekananda statue are some of his famous sculpted works.

He considers his wife Manjula Ganesh Rai and children Monish Rai and Aishwarya Rai as his pillars of support. Both his children are fine Bharatanatyam artists. His son is pursuing his final year CA and daughter has completed BBA and is preparing for her MBA.
