Dubai: It was a day of fun and frolic for the Surathkal Parishioners residing in the UAE. They met for a picnic at the Creek Park Dubai on the November 20, 2015. Participants enjoyed the picnic and made time to come together and meet fellow parishioners. The picnic was conducted by ESPA – Emirates Surathkal Parishioners Association.
The picnic began with prayer. Fr. Frederick Monteiro , Parish Priest of Nainad Parish who was on a visit to UAE led the prayer. President Roydon Roche welcomed the participants.
The participants were divided into 4 teams . Each with interesting names in Konkani like Dukor, Pade, Rede and Kole. Canute Pinto Kelrai was at his best, conducting various games like passing the ball, filling the bottle with sponge, Dog and the bone, Tug of war and breaking the pot. Founder president of ESPA Sunil Pinto also conducted the games. Refreshments were served between games to energise the participants.
Participants enjoyed the afternoon lunch that was well prepared by Alwins Restaurant Karama.
In the afternoon session, the teams presented skits on various topics. This was a good opportunity for the teams to display their acting talents. The teams presented the skits with a humorous touch which was very entertaining. Vice President Vincent Misquith, Internal Auditor Romola D’Souza and Dubai Representative William Sequeira were the judges.
Secretary Clara Pinto and Ex- President Ashok D’Souza did a great job maintaining the scores. Wilson Crasta helped in arranging the items for the games. Treasurer Vineeth Cutinho took the lead in doing the registration.
Joint Secretary Avil Pinto, Events Secretary Wilson Serrao, Sports Secretary Alwyn D’Souza, Abu Dhabi representative Jerald D’Souza, Sharjah and Northern Emirates representative Gilbert D’Souza also helped in organising the picnic.
Canute Pinto conducted the Housie game in a lively and entertaining manner.
At the end of the day, prizes were distributed by Leena Pinto, Fr. Frederick Monteiro, William Sequeira and Advisor Charles Aranha.
The picnic ended with a singing session led by Lancy D’Souza and Kevin Cutinho. All members joined in the singing.
All participants enjoyed the picnic thoroughly and left with great memories till the next picnic which will be held next year.
