Prof. Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, Ajman was the chief guest of the inaugural function of the Mega Health Camp. Held from 9 AM to 9 PM, the event offered free healthcare services including specialist doctor consultation and blood sugar/blood sugar/BMI checkups. A team of specialist doctors, consultants, nurses and volunteers conducted free consultations and checkups across various specialist departments. Patients requiring diagnostic examinations were tested and their results issued immediately, enabling the dispensation of free medicines without delay.
Commenting on the Mega Health Camp, Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder-President of the Thumbay Group said, “Thumbay Group’s network of academic hospitals, day care centres and family clinics regularly hold free health camps across the country, for the benefit of the public, as part of the Group’s CSR drive. We consider this our way of giving back to the society.”
Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of the Thumbay Group said that the camp was helpful in raising awareness on lifestyle-diseases, in addition to giving people free specialist consultations, diagnostic tests and medicines. “We regularly organise these camps to help the public address various health problems faced by people, along with early detection and prevention. Our camps also provide the needy with diagnostic tests and the necessary medication to cure their ailments”, he said. He added that promoting awareness on personal health and hygiene was an important aim of the camp.
Families and people of all age groups attended the camp. Abdul Rasheed, an Indian national who consulted Dr. Jayakumar Siddaraju, Specialist, Internal Medicine at the camp, said that he found the event very helpful. Following initial diagnosis, he was referred to a Urologist. He expressed his gratitude for the free medicines, diagnostic tests and scans he had availed at the camp. “It is commendable that in spite of the huge crowd, all the tests, consultations and medicine dispensation are being handled systematically here, ensuring minimal inconvenience to the visitors”, he added.
Amin, a manager who had visited the camp along with his employees, said that around 200 people from his company were attending the camp. Having personally consulted the Internal Medicine and Eye Specialists, he said that the free medical camp was a “very good initiative” and a “positive contribution” by the Thumbay Group, immensely benefiting the public, especially the blue-collar workers who wouldn’t usually be able to afford multi-speciality care. “Everything in the camp has been free of cost and the doctors have been very friendly and welcoming, listening to the patients calmly and advising further action,” he said. Emphasising that the camp provided high-quality care, he said he would recommend it to his friends and colleagues.
