Hamad International Airport Takes Off

Qatar: Hamad International Airport (HIA) took-off its first flight service on April 30 at 11:00am.

HIA is the world’s newest aviation hub, with world class facility that is beyond expectations, redefining the passenger’s need.

Ten airlines are now operating out of the $17 billion facility: Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Flydubai, Air Arabia, Iran Air, Air India Express, Yemenia Airways, Pakistan International Airline, Nepal Airlines, Syrian Airlines, and Pegasus Airlines. 

All other airlines, including Qatar Airways, will continue to fly to/from Doha International Airport until May 27, 2014.

HIA’s construction is one of the largest mega-projects in the world. HIA contains 41 wide body aircraft contact gates, together with over 25,000sqm of retail space included 104 retail outlets and 30 cafes/restaurants, passenger lounges and parking.

Other features include a new Emiri Terminal complex for VIP flights with additional hardstands, cargo terminal buildings, aircraft hangars and associated airline and airport ancillary features. The complex will include an airport hotel and 100-room transit hotel.
