Sharjah: Kannada’s essence is being spread abroad with its lilting melodies in Sharjah. Nostalgia and love for the roots are en’gulf’ing the Kannada’s eking a living there through a Kannada Film Songs Competition for non-resident Kannadigas of UAE being conducted by Karnataka Sangha Sharjah under the patronage of Kannadiga World to mark the occasion of annual get-together and Karnataka Rajyotsava.
The event started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by children. President of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah Sugandharaj Bekal welcomed the gathering.
Judging panel comprised of famous singer and Chief of ACME Building Materials Harish Sherigar, renowned playback singer Anitha Dsouza, popular musician Arun Carlo and music artiste Vidhushi Suma Narayan who wished luck to all the participants and motivated them to perform well.
President of Fortune group of Hotels Praveen Shetty, Patron of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah Mark Denis D’Souza, Chief of Maargadeepa Samskrutika Samithi Prabhakar Ambalatere, Chief of Daiji Dubai Dayan Mukamar and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The competition was being held under different categories. The kids between 8 and 15 years of age were categorised in one group and participants above 16 years were put in senior category comprising both male and female participants. The special attraction of the preliminaries was a performance from the judges amid thunderous applause and appreciation by the audience.
The grand finale of the competition will be held at Indian Association Auditorium Sharjah on November 18. The programme is lined up with unlimited entertainment.
Many dignitaries and guests will be witnessing the event and President Sugandharaj Bekal has requested everyone to attend the event to celebrate the Kannada Rajyotsava with Kannadigas.
