Dubai: The rhythmic, geometric patterns of bharatanatyam and the graceful pirouettes of Kathak came together to create magic on stage, showcasing two distinct styles of Indian classical dance, while a skillful interlude of shadow-play enchanted audiences. All these happened at the two-day Soorya India Festival, held on Sunday at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School in Dubai.
The Soorya Festival is the longest and one of the most prestigious cultural events in India – conducted annually in which the finest and most accomplished artistes in Indian classical dances and music engage UAE Audiences. The programme was conceived by Soorya Krishnamoorthy and saw Sreelatha Vinod performing the Bharatha Natyam, Rajendra Gangani the Kathak, and the trio, Rahul Acharya, Sonali Mohapatraand Gayathri Ranbir the Odissi dance forms.
Over the years since its inception under the dynamic leadership of Soorya Krishnamoorthy, the founder-director of the Soorya Stage and Film Society, it has sought to promote Indian arts and culture in 16 countries with the motto of achieving International integration through Culture.
The event was graced by the Consul General of India, Balakrishnan, Deputy Consul General of India, Dubai, Mr. Murleedharan, and Mr. Mathai Vaidyan, Associate Vice President, Sales and Services, UAE Exchange among others.
