Pilikula Nisargadhama soon to give discount to students
Mangaluru: Dr. Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama, a popular educational getaway for schoolchildren, is considering reducing its entry fee to attract more visitors. Currently, the combo ticket (excluding the planetarium) costs ₹170 for visitors above 10 years and ₹120 for children aged 3 to 10.
A Karnataka legislature committee on subordinate legislation recently visited the facility and discussed strategies to enhance its appeal and increase footfall. One major recommendation was to lower student concession fees. Commissioner for Public Instruction, KV Thrilok Chandra, stated that over 20,000 children visit annually, and reducing the cost could encourage even more participation.
In addition to price reductions, officials plan to introduce science quizzes and training programs for science teachers in collaboration with various clubs to make the experience more engaging.
Between April and December 2024-25, Nisargadhama recorded 3.84 lakh visitors, generating ₹3.8 crore in revenue. Key attractions included the zoo (1.85 lakh visitors), the lake garden (43,781), the science center (38,839), and the planetarium (28,425). Previous years saw an average of 5.5 lakh visitors annually, peaking at 5.91 lakh in 2022-23.
With these new measures, authorities hope to make Pilikula an even more attractive destination for learning and leisure.
