Piriyapattana: Unable to bear Dowry harassment, a 21 year old woman hung herself to death at her residence here on Monday.
Sunitha (21), daughter of Lalithamma from Naganahalli Palya is the deceased. She was married to Umesh son of Kamalamma from L G Palya in Chennapattna Taluk seven months back.
According to the complaint filed by Sunitha’s mother, both mother in law and husband were harassing her for dowry and gold.
Seven days ago her parents who came to know about dowry dispute, went to L G Palya and brought her back to native Naganahalli. On Monday she spoke to her husband and it is learnt that husband asked for remaining amount. Distressed over the harassment, Sunitha hung herself, and her mother Lalithamma registered a complaint at Bettadapura police station.
Police are further investigating. Her body was sent for postmortem and later handed over to the family.
Taluk Tahshildar Dr V Ranganath, DySP Jayaram, Circle inspector Jayaram, SI Chikkaswamy, Gram panchayath vice president Somashekhar, Republic Sena district president Mahadev were present.
