Sub Inspector assaults young woman, DC takes action

Periyapatna: A young woman was allegedly assaulted by a Police Sub-Inspector when she tried to lodge a complaint against the ill-treatment of her neighbors at Periyapatna Police Station, on Thursday August 21.

The assaulted woman has been identified as Puja, daughter of Nagaraj a resident of Chikkanayakana Street in Periyapatna.

Reportedly Puja and her family were being ill-treated by her neighbours and alleged that a portion of their house too had been encroached upon by the neighbours. She claimed that she was a Schedule Tribe.

Allegedly the Police Sub-Inspector Puneeth behaved atrociously with her and even assaulted her injuring her leg.

An aggrieved Puja, later narrated her woes to the DC, C Shikha during a phone-in programme which was launched by the DC recently. She assured her that she would examine the matter and take required action.

 

The DC’s action

The DC, C. Shikha, instructed the Dy.SP Jayaram to investigate the case and instructed Dr. Uma of the Health Department to arrange for treatment of  Puja at K.R. Hospital.

The DC also instructed the Assistant Commissioner, DDPI and Police to probe the issue and submit a report soon.

Additional DC M.S. Archana, MUDA Commissioner S. Palaiah, ZP CEO P.A. Gopal, Tahasildar Naveen Joseph and all officials of the District were also present when Puja narrated her ordeal.
