
Police crackdown: Gambling racket busted in Moodbidri, robbery suspect nabbed
In a major anti-gambling operation, the CCB officials of Mangaluru City police raided a shed in Aranthabetu, Manjanakatte, within Moodbidri police limits. Acting on a tip-off, they arrested seven individuals engaged in the illegal card game gambling “Andar-Bahar.”
The arrested include Sharif (52), Jagadish Acharya (43), Jayaram Shetty (53) from Moodbidri, and Satish Shetty (46), Jeevandar (48), Sunil Kumar (43), and Manohar Salian (56) from Karkala. Items seized during the raid included ₹56,170 in cash, eight mobile phones, a car, six bikes, an autorickshaw, playing cards, tables, and chairs, amounting to ₹9.2 lakh. A case has been registered at the Moodbidri police station.
Robbery case solved in Kankanady
In a separate incident, Kankanady Town police arrested Sunil (31), a Bondel resident, in connection with a robbery at a Naguri medical shop on December 28. The accused allegedly threatened a female staff member with a knife, assaulted her, and fled with ₹19,300 from the cash drawer.
Following an investigation, police apprehended the suspect, recovering ₹17,500 in cash, a scooter used in the robbery, and other items valued at ₹1.2 lakh. City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal commended the team’s swift action in solving the case.
These actions highlight the city’s commitment to curbing illegal activities and maintaining public safety.
