Police File Case Against CPI, CPI(M) Leaders for Unapproved Protest in Mangaluru
Mangaluru South Police Station has lodged a suo motu case against leaders of the CPI and CPI(M) following a protest near the Mini Vidhana Soudha on November 4. The protest, aimed at condemning civilian casualties from Israeli attacks on Palestine and calling for a ceasefire, was conducted despite a prior denial of permission.
According to ASI Praveen K’s complaint, CPI and CPI(M) leaders, including Nagesh Kotian, Vasanth Achari, Yadav Shetty, Santosh Bajal, and others, assembled unlawfully and raised slogans. The FIR lists charges under Sections 189(2) and 190 of the BNS for unauthorized assembly and protest.
The protest application, submitted to the city police commissioner by Nagesh Kotian on November 3, included a request to use loudspeakers. However, permission was denied, with DCP Siddharth Goyal warning of legal consequences if the protest proceeded.
Responding to the FIR, CPI(M) leader Muneer Katipalla stated that the police were informed of the event in advance and that loudspeakers were not used during the protest.
