Police Seek Divine Help to Tackle Rising Crime in Malmaruti Station Area
Amid a growing number of criminal incidents, the police at Malmaruti station have turned to divine intervention in hopes of curbing the crime wave within their jurisdiction. On Thursday, officers organized a homa-havana and puja at the station, which has since gained attention on social media. The images of the religious ceremony have sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing the police of demonstrating their inability to handle crime and questioning their efficiency in maintaining law and order.
In recent months, the Malmaruti police have been overwhelmed by high-profile cases, including the murder of businessman Santosh Padmannavar, a brutal attack on a woman and her daughter in Vaddarawadi, and the kidnapping of a photographer near KPTCL Hall. A bullet-firing incident involving a medical representative also added to the stress. Sources reveal that 47 cases were registered at the station in just the past six weeks, highlighting the escalating law and order situation.
Faced with mounting pressure, police officers at the station resorted to performing a puja on Thursday. They symbolically broke a pumpkin outside the police station before conducting the homa-havana ceremony with the help of a priest. While this act has sparked controversy, a senior officer, speaking anonymously, defended the ritual, stating that invoking divine help is a tradition to invite positive energy, and the interpretation of the event depends on one’s perspective.
