Pope Leo XIV rolls out in style before historic Mass
Before his official inauguration Mass, Pope Leo XIV embarked on his first journey through St. Peter’s Square in the iconic popemobile. As the vehicle made its way around the square and down Via della Conciliazione, the new pontiff waved warmly to the massive crowd lining the route.
Though he offered generous smiles and blessings to the faithful, he chose not to follow the tradition of kissing babies — a gesture popular with some of his predecessors.
The atmosphere was electric as pilgrims and tourists from around the world eagerly snapped photos and waved flags. Cheers erupted as the Pope appeared, marking a powerful moment of connection between the new leader of the Catholic Church and his global congregation.
This symbolic ride served as a prelude to the grand ceremony, where he would officially receive the papal insignia and deliver his powerful message of unity, humility, and peace.
