Prahlad Joshi Urges State Government to Choose Dharwad for New IIT
HUBBALLI: State BJP president Prahlad Joshi urged the state government on Friday to pass a resolution recommending Dharwad as the location for the proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Speaking after the Mayoral elections, Joshi shared that Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani had indicated the ministry would respect the state government’s choice of location.
“I urge the Chief Minister to take a decision in favor of Dharwad and send it to the Centre so that there is no ambiguity,” Joshi stated. He emphasized Dharwad’s suitability for hosting the premier educational institute, a view supported by the Prof U R Rao Committee.
Joshi also advised against proposing multiple cities, as it would delay the decision-making process. In contrast, when asked about the Cabinet’s decision to set up the IIT in Raichur, Jagadish Shettar noted that the decision followed the Nanjundappa Committee’s recommendations to address regional imbalances.
