PSI recruitment scam: DGP office staffer accused of ₹25 lakh bribe demand
The 2021 Karnataka police sub-inspector (PSI) recruitment scam has taken a fresh turn, with a complaint filed in Haveri against a First Division Assistant (FDA) working in the office of the Director General of Police and his associate. The duo is accused of seeking bribes even before the official recruitment notification was released.
The accused have been identified as Sudeer Kumar T C, employed at the DGP’s office, and Sunilkumar from Badami in Bagalkot district. According to the FIR, the two allegedly demanded ₹25 lakh from a PSI aspirant, Siddesh, through his brother Dundibasappa Langoti, a resident of Haveri.
Between March 2020 and March 2025, ₹10 lakh was transferred to Sunilkumar’s account, while ₹15 lakh was handed over in cash. Despite this hefty payment, Siddesh was never selected for the PSI post. When a refund was demanded, the accused issued a cheque that later bounced due to insufficient funds.
Police have booked the accused under charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust. “We filed the FIR on May 30. Investigation is ongoing, and a chargesheet will be filed soon,” confirmed officer S R Ganachari from the CEN Police Station, Haveri.
The broader PSI recruitment scam earlier led to exam cancellations after Bluetooth-aided cheating was uncovered in Kalaburgi. While a fresh exam was conducted, all 545 posts have now been filled.
