Raichur on Alert: Karnataka Steps Up COVID Readiness Despite Low Case Count
Even in districts like Raichur, where there are zero active COVID-19 cases, authorities are ramping up preparedness in anticipation of a possible surge.
A visit by PTI Videos to the special COVID ward at RIMS Hospital on Wednesday showcased the district’s readiness. Dr Arvind Sagar, Medical Superintendent of RIMS, stated, “Our hospital is equipped to handle COVID-positive cases. Blocks A and B have been readied with necessary beds and infrastructure.”
This cautious move comes in the wake of growing concerns over rising COVID-19 infections in parts of the country. On May 26, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed state health officials to remain vigilant. “There’s no reason to panic, but all critical facilities such as ventilators, oxygen supply, and medicines must be stocked in advance,” he said in an official statement.
Reinforcing this directive, Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education, addressed the press on May 27. He highlighted the need to test all SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infections) cases, stating that testing labs had been set up across four regional divisions. “Data collection on ventilators and oxygen beds is already underway,” he added.
As per the Karnataka Health Department, the state currently has 100 active cases, with a 9.44% positivity rate recorded over the past 24 hours. A total of 381 COVID-19 tests were conducted, including 361 RT-PCR and 20 RAT tests.
