Rickshaw Drivers to Swing Big at Mangaluru’s First-Ever Cricket Tournament
Mangaluru – In a celebration of community spirit and sportsmanship, Kudlothsava, in collaboration with the Rickshaw Drivers Union Commission Mangalore, will host the city’s first Rickshaw Drivers Cricket Tournament on May 18, bringing together 720+ rickshaw drivers from across Mangaluru.
Kicking off at 6:00 am, the tournament will unfold across six different grounds, featuring 48 teams, grouped under 8 franchise banners, with 15 players per team. This one-day sporting extravaganza is designed to honour the relentless service of rickshaw drivers and offer them a well-deserved break through cricket and camaraderie.
The grand finale and prize distribution will take place at Nehru Maidan, Mangaluru, in the evening, followed by a vibrant cultural programme. The closing ceremony will be attended by ministers, MPs, MLAs, and other dignitaries.
Organisers Ananad Lobo, Dayanand Kukkaje, Mohan Krishna, Ashwin, Dayakar, and Nasir announced the tournament at a press conference, encouraging the general public to come out and cheer for their local heroes.
This landmark initiative aims to create a fun, engaging and respectful space for rickshaw drivers to unwind, connect with peers, and be recognized for their invaluable contributions to city life.
