Rising Exam Stress in Mangaluru and Dakshina Kannada Sparks Concern
Examination-related anxiety has been affecting students in Dakshina Kannada and Mangaluru, prompting heightened vigilance from both district and city police in recent days. Several incidents have highlighted the psychological pressure students are facing during the exam season.
A notable case involved a missing teenager from Farangipete, who was later found in Udupi. The young boy explained that he had left home due to anxiety about his upcoming exams. In another instance, a 17-year-old boy went missing on March 12, causing the Kavoor police to act swiftly. DCP (Law and Order) Sidharth Goyal shared that the police team, led by Inspector Raghavendra Byndoor, traced the boy’s movements to Goa and Hubballi before bringing him back home safely on Saturday. He also mentioned that the boy had been feeling stressed due to exams.
Additionally, a young girl had informed her family that she experienced a distressing incident on her way home from tuition. However, after investigation, it was revealed through CCTV footage and digital evidence that she had actually gone to visit a friend. It was later discovered that the girl had been under a lot of stress, having recently switched to a new school, and her academic performance had been a source of worry.
In a tragic incident, a 13-year-old boy passed away after a fall from the fifth floor of a building in Mary Hill, Konchady. Authorities suspect that the stress related to exams might have contributed to the unfortunate event.
A senior police officer explained, “Many students today, unlike before, have easy access to money through UPI and bank cards, making it easier for them to travel when feeling overwhelmed.” The officer stressed the importance of creating a supportive and understanding environment for students. Encouraging open communication between parents, teachers, and students, offering timely counseling, and maintaining balanced routines are crucial steps in helping students manage stress effectively.
