
Rowdy-Sheeters Shot and Arrested After Severing Dalit Youth’s Hand
Kanakapura: On Sunday, Karnataka Police shot and injured two rowdy-sheeters, Harsha alias Kaima and Karunesh alias Kanna, in the legs before arresting them. The duo is accused of a brutal attack on Dalit youth Aneesh Kumar in Kanakapura town.
The attack occurred on July 21, when a gang of seven armed individuals from the upper caste Vokkaliga community assaulted Aneesh Kumar and his family. The assailants severed Kumar’s left hand before fleeing the scene. The incident has ignited widespread outrage among Dalit organizations, who have called for swift government action.
According to police reports, the confrontation began when the accused questioned Kumar about his caste while he was walking with his uncle on the main road. After a heated argument, the assailants later broke into Kumar’s house, using casteist slurs and attacking his family. Kumar is receiving treatment at St. John’s Hospital in Bengaluru, while his family members were treated locally.
The police have registered an FIR against the seven suspects, with the two arrested being hospitalized for their injuries. Charges against the accused include Sections 118 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 198 (unlawful assembly), 329 (criminal trespass), 351 (threatening), and 76 (assault with intent to disrobe) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, as well as offenses under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act.
