New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Hungarian MP Balazs Orban in New Delhi on Thursday. During the meeting, Jaishankar praised Orban’s interest in the historical ties between India and Hungary and engaged in a fruitful discussion on global perspectives.
Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for Orban’s curiosity about the historical connections between the two nations. The External Affairs Minister shared his positive sentiment on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Glad to meet Hungarian MP @BalazsOrban_HU today in Delhi. A good conversation on our perspectives of the world. Appreciate his interest in our historical connect.”
This meeting follows a series of diplomatic exchanges aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. In March 2024, a parliamentary delegation led by RS Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, visited Hungary. The delegation, including members Ashok Bajpai and Lt Gen (Retd) DP Vats, as well as Rajya Sabha Secretary-General PC Mody, engaged with Hungarian officials to enhance parliamentary cooperation.
Key activities during the March visit included meetings with Istvan Jakab, Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, and interactions with the Hungarian-Indian Friendship Group. The delegation also undertook a comprehensive tour of the Hungarian Parliament to understand its traditions better.
Harivansh underscored the importance of parliamentary cooperation as a foundation for the vibrant and multi-faceted relationship between India and Hungary. The diplomatic ties between the two countries, marked by the 75th anniversary of their agreement in 2023, continue to grow stronger through regular exchanges and collaborative engagements.
Notably, Zsolt Nemeth, President of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Hungarian Parliament, visited India in January 2024, further cementing the bilateral relationship.
