70 booked for violating sec 144 by holding jumma namaz, 7 with high fever tested

Shivamogga: Police filed cases against 70 people for holding a community namaz on Friday, April 3. The community namaz was conducted at a place called Kesavinakatte in Shivamogga.

Of the 70 people who were arrested, seven had a high fever. They were sent to McGann Hospital for testing.

The jumma namaz was being conducted in violation of the prohibitory orders that were imposed in the district under section 144 of the CrPC in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Hundreds of people had gathered for the prayers at the local mosque at around 2 PM today.

As soon as they were alerted about the gathering, the police rushed to the spot. Seeing the police, many people managed to escape. The remaining were rounded up and arrested.
