Shivamogga: With the entire nation going in or a lockdown to battle COVID-19, Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner K B Shivakumar has said that HOPCOMS has been asked to sell fruits and vegetables door-to-door from Friday onwards.
A meeting was held at the DC’s office to chalk out plans to help the general public during the lockdown period.
Addressing the meeting, the DC said that the HOPCOMS can sell vegetables and fruits in each and every ward at stipulated price.
He said that any private company or individuals wanting to start this door delivery service need to take prior permission from the district administration.
They need to also adopt safety measures like wearing gloves and masks while meeting people.
Cooked food delivery
Recognising the fact that there are many people who bank on hotel food, the DC said that one contractor can be identified for every five ward and steps can be taken to supply cooked food.
Hygiene must be maintained while preparing the food and quality of the food served by these contractors can be checked by the city corporation, he said.
He said that canteens near hospitals will be kept open for parcel service.
